Kia Sorento or Telluride - Which One Is Best For You?

Kia Sorento or Telluride

Which SUV For Me?

There are a lot of Crossover and Midsize SUVs on the market right now, but not all of them carry the much-coveted third row. Kia offers two such vehicles; The Kia Sorento and the brand new Telluride. Which car is right for you? Well, that is for you to decide, but we are here to make sure you get the best car for you and your family.

How They Are Similar

The Telluride and the Sorento have plenty of similarities that are going to ensure that whichever crossover SUV you pick will be packed with features that you are going to love.

Both of these vehicles are available with a V6 engine. The Telluride comes with a 3.8L V6 that comes packing 291 Horsepower and the Sorento comes with a slightly smaller 3.3L V6 that up to 290 Horsepower. With the Sorento, you also have the option of going with a less expensive trim and get a 4 Cylinder engine that will give you a little less power but will give you better gas mileage.

The Telluride and the Sorento can come equipped with a smooth 8-speed automatic transmission with the V6 models and in the Sorento, with 4 cylinders you get the 6 speed automatic. Additionally, you can upgrade the V6 engines with AWD to help ensure you have traction in all weather conditions.

The luxury interior you may know from the Sorento is also present in Telluride. You will forget that you are driving a vehicle that isn’t afraid of going off-road due to how luxurious the ride feels. You also get an infotainment built with UVO onboard each of these crossovers, and that means Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be at your fingertips.

Kia DRIVE WiSE is available in both vehicles. In the Telluride, DRIVE WiSE comes standard while in the Sorento it comes with some of the higher-end trends. DRIVE WiSE is a feature that Kia has developed to give you many features that are designed to make your driving experience more enjoyable and safer.

Some of the features you can expect from DRIVE WiSE are Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Forward Collision-Avoidance (FCA). It also features comfort and convenience technology like Lane Change Assist with Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW) and Lane Departure Warnings as well as Lane Keep Assist. And, of course, Kia’s Driver Attention Alert (DAA) designed to make sure you are not distracted or feeling sluggish while behind the wheel.

On all new Kia cars and SUVs, you get the amazing 10-year or 100,000-mile warranty. If you choose to pick up your Kia from the folks here at Dick Hannah you will also get our Lifetime Limited Warranty on top of that.

2019 Kia Sorento

2019 Kia Sorento Crossover Mid Sized SUV

The Kia Sorento wasn’t the first foray Kia made into three-row SUVs, that title belongs to the Kia Borrego, however, the Sorento is the model that secured Kia’s position as a competitor in the Crossover/Midsize SUV market.

The Kia Sorento gives you plenty of room for your storage. With the third row up you get 11.3 cubic feet of space, which increases to 38 with the third row down and 73 cubic feet of storage if you also put down the second row. Not to mention the pockets and door storage that is abundant across the vehicle. The Sorento is going to have plenty of room for most needs.

The Sorento comes with two engine options. If you are more concerned with fuel economy and don’t need a lot of towing power you can get the 6-speed Automatic 4 cylinder model, but if you need to haul around a trailer you can go with the 8-speed automatic V6 that has a towing capacity of 5,000lbs.

The Sorento offers comfortable seats for up to seven folks. The second row has two bucket seats while the third row is a 40/20/40 bench seat. The second-row seats have plenty of room for all passengers while the third row is going to be a little tight for a six-foot-tall adult. If you have younger riders there is also a couple of LATCH child-seat connectors available for help securing their car seats.

An upscale cabin and user-friendly infotainment system, of which the Sorento has both, doesn’t mean much if you aren’t safe. The Sorento has an overall safety rating of five out of five stars. You can also get Kia’s DRIVE WiSe on several of the trim levels, which will give you great safety, comfort, and convenience.

2020 Kia Telluride

2020 Kia Telluride 3 row Crossover Midsize SUV

Welcome to Kia’s biggest SUV on our lot. While this is the biggest SUV Kia has to offer it is still firmly in the Crossover/Midsize SUV market. The newest SUV in Kia’s portfolio also comes with some new and exciting improvements.

At 16 feet 5 inches long it is a little bit bigger than its little sister the Kia Sorento. With that extra room, you are able to get up to eight passengers comfortably into the vehicle with a 50/50 bench in the second row and a 40/20/40 bench in the rear third row. And, unlike the Sorento, there is enough room in that third row for a six-foot-tall adult to sit comfortably for a long trip.

People aren’t the only thing that you will want to move around with your new Telluride you are also going to want to haul objects like suitcases, Costco groceries, or the results of a Home Depot run. Behind the third row you are going to get 21 cubic feet of storage, which goes up to 46 feet with the third row down, and if you are going to put both of the back two rows down you are going to get access to 87 cubic feet of storage space.

The luxurious interior of the Telluride will be a joy for not just the driver but all of her passengers. From the driver’s seat, you will have access to the 10.25” touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.  The Heads Up Display (HUD) will help you keep your eyes on the road while the various drive modes will help you adjust to driving conditions around you. One of our favorite features is the abundance of USB ports throughout the SUV for charging your phones and other devices.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not yet given us an official safety rating for the Telluride at this point, however, we are confident it is going to do very well. Also, it is worth noting that even on the most inexpensive trims DRIVE WiSE comes standard.

So, Telluride or Sorento?

You aren’t going to go wrong with either of these great SUVs. They both offer plenty of room, safety features, and a great ride.

If you are looking to save a little money and get a little bit better gas mileage; The Sorento is going to treat you right. It is going to offer you three rows, unlike the competitor, the ability to get AWD, and will be a little bit easier to park in the city.

The Telluride is perfect for you if you are looking for a three-row SUV that is great for hauling folks of all shapes and sizes, you want extra safety features standard, and the additional cargo space. It comes with a slightly higher price tag, but it is totally worth it for the extra luxury and upgrades.
